Public Affairs as a profession

Hans Bellstedt Public Affairs (hbpa) GmbH in Berlin advises companies and associations on their positioning in political Berlin and beyond. We offer our customers a broad product portfolio, from the development of strategic concepts to the observation and analysis of political processes to stakeholder management, events and the creation of content - the services and thus the tasks are diverse. To support our team, we are now looking for a working student in the field of public affairs for 10-20 hours/week, starting August 15th, 2023 (alternatively September 1st), initially for a limited period of six months (with the option of an extension).

Your tasks:    

• Monitoring of legislation and relevant developments at federal, state and municipal level, especially in the areas of energy and climate policy   
•  Creation of environment and stakeholder analyzes in the area of ​​infrastructure    
• Stakeholder mapping and analysis    
• Topic research and preparation of briefings   
• If necessary, participation in political events and conferences   
• If you are interested, support in designing our social media activities

Your profile:     

• Studies in politics, society, law, communication or social sciences    
• First relevant professional experience, for example in the Bundestag or state parliament office, association, agency, foundation or editorial office in the context of internships or part-time jobs is desirable    
• Great interest in complex issues in the above-mentioned policy areas as well as the ability to quickly familiarize yourself with new topics and areas of responsibility    
• Analytical skills and a high degree of independence, self-motivation and organizational talent    
• Confident use of MS Office    
• Experience with Adobe Acrobat Pro and Adobe InDesign desirable    
• Very good knowledge of spoken and written German and English

• Creation of environment and stakeholder analyzes in the area of ​​infrastructure    
• Development of public affairs strategies and their operational implementation    
• Stakeholder mapping and analysis    
• Creation of position papers    
• Topic research and preparation of briefings    
• If necessary, participation in political events and conferences    
• If you are interested, support in designing our social media activities

Your profile:   

• Completed studies in politics, society, law, communication or social sciences    
• First relevant professional experience, for example in the Bundestag or state parliament office, association, agency, foundation or editorial department, also as part of internships

• Supporting various teams in monitoring legislation and relevant developments at federal, state and local level    
• Support in the creation of area- and stakeholder-focussed analyses    
• Stakeholder mapping    
• Targeted research and preparation of briefings    
• If you are interested, support in designing our social media activities    
• Occasionally attending political events or debates

Your profile:    

• Very good school or academic achievements    
• Very good verbal and written communication skills    
• Initial experience in consulting, politics or research is an advantage, but not a must    
• Interest in topics related to business, politics, and communication    
• Analytical skills and a high degree of independence, self-motivation, and organizational talent    
• Confident handling of MS Office, preferably first experiences with Adobe Acrobat Pro and Adobe InDesign    
• Very good knowledge of spoken and written German and English

To expand our circle of competence partners, we are looking for an expert in the field of digital economy. Relevant knowledge from this sector would be advantageous, for example acquired through a corresponding activity in a company in the IT industry, an association, or also in the political environment. The hbpa competence partners work on a project basis for hbpa as freelancers, for example in new business situations, at workshops, or for long-term (co-)supervision of mandates, especially at the strategic level. The idea of ​​the partnership is also to share skills, expertise, ideas, and networks to the benefit of both sides and to help the partner gain greater visibility.
